I think worse than people complaining about spending two million dollars on funding for NASA to land Curiosity on Mars (which, by the way, is the amount we spend on the military every two or three days in this country) are the people saying it isn’t that big a deal because we’ve done it before.

Oh. I’m sorry. Does interplanetary travel not amaze you? Does it not amaze you that nothing went wrong in sending and landing Curiosity on the surface of a planet that not a single person has been? Even though there were a million things that could have gone wrong, from tiny little things to giant huge things that would have screwed up the entire mission.

If you are not excited about the fact that we safely landed Curiosity on Mars, then I do not believe you are adequately amazed with the universe - and I do not know how to help you, sorry.

Stuff’s happening in space - decided to mark a monumental occasion with dumb art.

Earth’s face kind of looks a bit like Bloo from Foster’s.
Or is that just me?

‘Wanderers’ - an MSL/Curiosity commemoration print

Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) is a robotic mission to Mars launched by NASA on November 26, 2011, that will attempt to land a Mars rover called Curiosity on the surface of Mars. Currently en route to the planet, it is scheduled to land in Gale Crater at about 05:31 UTC on August 6, 2012. Curiosity rover’s objectives include determining Mars’ habitability, studying its climate and geology, and collecting data for human missions.
This artwork is available as a print in a wide variety of sizes for a wide variety of prices on my society6 page.
For more information about the Curiosity rover, including its incredibly complex and nervewracking plan of descent onto the surface of Mars, check out this SciShow episode.

forgive me if i reblog this several more times this evening
today’s the big day

this is GORGEOUS.
